In this episode, Marion and I talk about our new co-authored book, The Field Armies of the East Roman Empire, 361-630 (Cambridge University Press, 2023). For those interested in the military history of this period, this book contains a downright mutinous revision of the organization of the East Roman field armies and the changing priorities behind their deployments. We also take the opportunity to discuss revisionist scholarship in general, the kinds we like and those we would court-martial.

Great stuff guys. I have tried to place units rather than commanders and have the same challenge + plus the problem of cohores placed in different locations. I will pick up the book and have a good read of the appendices lol! I think your next book will sell if you angle it towards the table top Wargaming community also. Can you also tackle the Theory of the milities being naval troops. This is the biggest problem for me with the Nottia. Keep up the great work Cheers Matt French Wargames Holidays
